I decided to recreate a custom WLED lightboard for my dad as a meaningful and hands-on gift. I used an ESP32 microcontroller and programmed it with the WLED firmware to control a strip of individually addressable WS2812B LEDs.

My Father bought all of the materials for me and I put them all togther. I had a piece of wood that I used as a backboard and mounted the LEDs to them. I then carefully put a canvas on top of the board and added spacers to the canvas.
